Chandigarh, June 9, 2026: Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has written to the Centre once again, seeking special trains from Punjab to Seer Govardhanpur, Varanasi, to facilitate devotees visiting the birthplace of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji during the 650th Parkash Purab celebrations.
Chairing a high-level review meeting of the year-long commemorative events, Cheema said the Bhagwant Mann-led government is already providing free travel to devotees under the Mukh Mantri Teerath Yatra Scheme through regular train and bus services to Varanasi from different districts of Punjab.
The minister reviewed preparations for the statewide celebrations, which include Kirtan Samagams, seminars, school competitions, blood donation camps, drone shows and cultural programmes aimed at spreading Guru Ravidass Ji’s message of equality, social justice and human dignity.
Cheema said the Punjab Government is also launching a major environmental initiative under which 650 acres of Panchayati land will be developed as Sri Guru Ravidass Ji Maharaj Bagichis, while a plantation drive targeting an average of 6.5 lakh saplings in each district will be undertaken.
The celebrations will culminate in a mega state-level event at Khuralgarh, featuring religious congregations, exhibitions, conferences, drone shows and cultural programmes dedicated to the life and teachings of Guru Ravidass Ji.
