8 mobiles, banned items recovered from behind bars 11 prisoners at Ferozepur Jail
Ferozepur, June 9: The recovery of prohibited items from the high-security Central Jail, Ferozepur, continues unabated, with jail authorities recovering eight more mobile phones during a surprise search operation conducted inside the prison premises.
According to official information, the search was carried out by the Assistant Superintendent of the Central Jail along with his team. During the operation, six touchscreen mobile phones, two keypad handsets, a battery, a data cable, and other accessories were seized.
Following the recovery, the police have registered a case against a prisoner and 11 under trial inmates under relevant provisions of the law. Further investigations are underway to ascertain how the contraband items entered the jail and to identify those involved in the smuggling network.
The latest seizure has once again highlighted the persistent challenge of preventing banned items from entering prisons. Official records reveal that 179 mobile phones have already been recovered from the jail during 2026 alone.
The trend over the past several years shows a steady rise in recoveries, with 70 mobile phones seized in 2019, 130 in 2020, 265 in 2021, 437 in 2022, 469 in 2023, 500 in 2024, and a record 649 mobile phones recovered in 2025.
Despite claims by jail authorities of stringent security measures and enhanced surveillance, the continued recovery of the most wanted gadgets - mobile phones, is raising serious concerns about security lapses and the effectiveness of existing monitoring systems. Police officials are conducting a detailed probe into the latest recovery and exploring possible links to a larger smuggling network operating within or outside the prison.
