Chandigarh, June 9, 2026: Aam Aadmi Party MP Malvinder Singh Kang on Tuesday said Panjab University has initiated the process of reinstalling Punjabi (Gurmukhi) signboards and nameplates across its campus after concerns were raised over their removal.
Kang said he had strongly objected to the absence of Punjabi from university signages and had taken up the issue with the Vice President of India and Chancellor of Panjab University, C. P. Radhakrishnan, seeking immediate corrective action.
According to Kang, the university administration has now officially informed him that orders for Punjabi signboards have already been placed and their installation will begin shortly.
Welcoming the development, Kang described it as an important step towards preserving Punjab’s linguistic and cultural heritage. He said the decision reinforces the significance of Punjabi language and ensures that institutions associated with Punjab continue to reflect the state's identity and historical legacy.
The MP also thanked the Vice President and university authorities for responding positively to the issue and taking steps to restore Punjabi to its rightful place on the campus.
He reiterated that the dignity, prominence and recognition of the Punjabi language must be protected in every institution connected with Punjab’s heritage and culture.
