Chandigarh, June 26, 2026: Punjab Legislative Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has written to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, expressing deep concern over the recent clash between Nihang Sikh pilgrims returning from the Sri Hemkund Sahib Yatra and local residents in Karnaprayag, Chamoli district.
In his letter, Sandhwan raised concerns over reports alleging one-sided action by the local administration against the Sikh pilgrims. He urged the Uttarakhand Government to order an impartial, independent and time-bound investigation to establish the facts and ensure accountability.
The Speaker emphasized that the safety, security and dignity of Sikh devotees undertaking the Sri Hemkund Sahib pilgrimage must be protected at all costs. He also called for strict action against anyone attempting to give the incident a communal colour.
Sandhwan said several Sikh religious bodies had taken serious note of the matter and demanded a fair inquiry. He expressed confidence that the Uttarakhand Government would accord the issue high priority and take swift steps to uphold justice, equality and communal harmony.
The letter comes amid growing concern among Sikh organisations over the June 15 incident, with demands for a transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the clash.
