Himachal introduces QR code-based ration distribution amid Aadhaar server glitch

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), June 26: The Himachal Pradesh Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs has directed all fair price shops to distribute ration using QR codes after a technical glitch in the Aadhaar authentication server disrupted ration distribution across several parts of the state for the past three days.
The server outage left many consumers unable to collect their monthly ration during the last week of the month, prompting the department to introduce the temporary QR code-based system to ensure uninterrupted distribution.
Under the new arrangement, depot holders will scan the QR code printed on ration cards to verify beneficiaries and distribute foodgrains. The required QR code scanners have already been installed in depot machines.
Purushottam Singh, District Controller, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Kangra, said the department has instructed all fair price shop operators to adopt the QR code-based system until the Aadhaar server is restored. He added that normal Aadhaar-based authentication and ration distribution will resume once the technical issue is resolved.
The move is expected to provide immediate relief to consumers by ensuring they do not have to make repeated visits to ration depots due to authentication failures.
