Chandigarh, July 13, 2026: A former photographer from Punjab's S.A.S. Nagar has successfully transformed into an agri-entrepreneur with support from the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) Scheme, showcasing how the state government's initiative is helping youth build sustainable businesses and generate local employment.
Highlighting the success story, Horticulture Minister Mohinder Bhagat said the Punjab Horticulture Department, the nodal agency for implementing the AIF Scheme in the state, is enabling young entrepreneurs to establish modern agriculture-based enterprises through affordable financing under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
The minister said the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund Scheme provides loans at concessional interest rates, encouraging youth to invest in value-added agricultural businesses while strengthening the rural economy.
Sharing the example of Sarabjit Singh from S.A.S. Nagar, Bhagat said the beneficiary secured a loan at an interest rate of 6 per cent under the scheme, allowing him to set up a unit producing premium-quality flour and spices.
The enterprise is now generating a steady income for Sarabjit Singh while also creating employment opportunities at the local level.
Reflecting on his journey, Sarabjit Singh said he had previously worked as a photographer but decided to venture into agribusiness after availing the benefits of the AIF Scheme.
"The scheme gave me a new direction in life. It helped me become self-reliant and encouraged me to contribute to the rural economy through value-added agricultural products," he said.
Appealing to young people across Punjab, Bhagat urged them to take advantage of the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund Scheme to establish agriculture-based enterprises, create jobs and contribute to the state's economic growth.
