Bar Associations intensify agitation against LADC Policy; ‘No Work Day’ strike to continue
DBA Ferozepur extends full support to JAC’s decision to continue No Work Day
Ferozepur, July 19, 2026: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Bar Associations of Punjab, Haryana and Union Territory Chandigarh has unanimously resolved to intensify its ongoing agitation against the Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC) Policy. The decision was taken during a video conference held on Sunday, attended by representatives of 57 Bar Associations, while several others extended their support despite being unable to participate.
The committee announced that the ongoing “No Work Day” strike will continue until the LADC Policy is withdrawn or terminated. To strengthen the movement, district-wise hunger strikes will now be organized across Punjab, with at least five Bar Associations participating every day. All Bar Associations have also been directed to ensure complete observance of the strike.
As part of the next phase of the agitation, protest programmes will be held in Chandigarh and New Delhi. A hunger strike is scheduled to be organized at the Punjab and Haryana High Court after July 22, followed by an indefinite hunger strike near the Supreme Court of India in New Delhi from July 27 onwards.
The JAC further appealed to every advocate to individually submit a representation to the Chief Justice of India expressing opposition to the LADC Policy. It was also resolved that if any invitation for talks is received from the Chief Justice of India, the matter will be considered collectively by the Joint Action Committee.
To broaden support, teams of advocates will visit Bar Associations in Haryana and seek their participation in the movement. District Bar Associations have been asked to issue daily press releases, while state-level statements will be released by the JAC conveners.
The committee emphasised that all resolutions were adopted unanimously and urged every Bar Association and its members to implement them in letter and spirit to maintain unity and strengthen the ongoing campaign against the LADC Policy.
Neel Rattan, Secretary, District Bar Association and Ashwani Dhingra Senior Advocate said, DBA has extended its full support to the Joint Action Committee’s decision and reaffirmed its commitment to continue the ongoing “No Work Day” strike and other protest programmes until the withdrawal of the LADC Policy. The association also appealed to its members to actively participate in the agitation while maintaining unity and discipline.
