Chandigarh, December 18, 2016 : The Shiromani Akali Dal on Sunday ridiculed PPCC Chief Capt Amarinder Singh's demand to Punjab governor to withdraw permission for special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha which reflects poorly on his little knowledge of parliamentary procedures and propriety.
In a hard hitting statement released from the party head office here today, Manjinder Singh Sirsa , SAD spokesman and advisor to deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, said that it appears that Amarinder is gripped in a fear psychosis that the welfare measures taken by the SAD-BJP combine will hit him hard politically.
He said that perhaps Amarinder is oblivious of the fact that it is constitutional responsibility of an elected government to adopt pro-poor and pro-people policies aimed to ameliorate their living conditions. He said that conduct of legislative business in any state is as per the constitutional responsibility but Amarinder Singh is hell bent to derive dividend out of everything by twisting facts.
Mr. Sirsa further said that the demand of Amarinder to stall the pro-people and pro- poor policies only indicates that he has not learnt any lesson from his past mistakes. He reminded the Congress leader that prior to the 2012 assembly elections , he had written numerous letters to the then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, opposing the sanction of welfare schemes in Punjab and to stop the grants from being released for the Punjabis. He also reminded him that he had gone a step further by urging the banking sector not to lend money to the state for the development works. He said that when he was doing so, all his activities were keenly watched by people who ‘punished’ him by rejecting Congress policies and giving their mandate in favour of pro-people and pro-development SAD-BJP combine in 2012 elections.
Urging the Congress Chief to immediately stop opposing pro-people initiatives of the SAD-BJP combine, Mr. Sirsa said that people of the state well understand the psyche of a monarch who is always opposed to the common people. “He should realize that days of monarchy are over long back and it is now a democratic set up in which common man is a real ‘raja’ who mandates the political parties to govern any state for taking people friendly initiatives.
