Born in Sand dunes of Deon Village of Punjab,Jagrup Brar enters third time in British Columbia Assembly
Ludhiana , May 10, 2017: Bathinda man Jagrup Brar has emerged winner from Surrey-Fleetwood seat on New Democratic Party (NDP) nomination for the British Columbia (BC) Canada’s provincial legislative assembly elections.
He defeated his main rival and cabinet minister Peter Fassbender of Liberal Party by securing 52 percent votes. Fassbender secured 39 percent votes. Jagrup got 7102 votes compared to liberal candidates vote share of 5085 . The third candidate of green party got only 1433 votes.

It was a sweet revenge of sorts for Brar as Fassbender had defeated him in 2013 provincial election.
Hailing from village Deon in Bathinda district, Brar has been a national level basketball player. He moved to Canada for studies. He holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration.
He represented Surrey-Panorama Ridge constituency from 2004 to 2009 and Surrey-Fleetwood 2009 to 2013 as the NDP member.
Brar lived in a small room in Vancouver's notorious Downtown Eastside for part of the month-long challenge. He lost 26 pounds during the event and reported feeling constantly hungry and his mind "fuzzy" due to a lack of adequate nutrition and sleep. He kept a blog of his experiences and the media exposure surrounding the event significantly raised public awareness of welfare rates in B.C.He is very committed and devoted activist for the welfare of the society.

Interestingly, he is also is friend of FM Punjab Manpreet Badal being a national level player of Basketball.
He is among the 7 Punjabi candidates who have won the BC assembly elections . Total 18 Indo-Canadian Punjabi candidates contested the provincial election this time.
