Ignorance is no more bliss!.......by Navpreet Brar
May 2, 2021: As you explore life, you get to know so many different aspects of life and the irony is, the same attribute plays different roles in two different situations where the meaning remains the same but the effect differs. When we talk about leading a life that is peaceful and happy, we believe that certain things we need to ignore and move on but we cannot work with this philosophy in all the fields of life. See! what we are facing as a consequence of our ignorance. We have created the toughest conditions of a lifetime for ourselves just because we were ignorant of what our actions will result in. We were actually on a rampage to destroy our environment and have been insensitive towards what our mother earth has been providing and what we are giving back in return.
Overexploitation of resources, excessive usage, and extraction, destroying the green area, creating an imbalance in the natural phenomenon due to our activities have led to the destruction that we are facing today in terms of health, scarcity of resources, hunger, poverty, and pollution. Lives have gone topsy turvy and now we are facing the toughest situation in our lifetime where we are struggling to breathe a single breath of oxygen that is provided free by our nature, which people have to procure in black now, just to save the dying! What have we done?
This is the result of our ignorance towards our natural resources and our planet earth. We forgot our roots in the race to win. We forgot that this is the only planet where life is possible in this whole universe and we are few lucky beings to be here. We forgot that we are nothing but just a little spec in this universe and the forces and energies around are much more powerful than us. We misconceived that by making and creating machines we would win over everything but if you cut the root of a plant, it will never turn into a flourishing tree. In this insensible pursuit of power and money, we have lost our basic need that is our health. Just give a pause and think, if you cannot breathe, what will you do? Will you able to accomplish anything that you have thought of? You need to be alive and in sync with nature to live, thrive, and grow.
We have started thinking of climate action when we have almost destroyed everything but it is very sad to observe that we still haven’t learned our lessons properly. People are still having a very casual and ignorant attitude when it comes to taking care of our resources and environment. Dear all, this is high time! Let’s be more vigilant and let’s be more conscious. Take a resolution to change your habits which could lead to a safe and healthy environment for yourself and everyone around. Stop wasting and let’s follow ‘6R’ regime, which I have also learned from a young entrepreneur from Sri Lanka, which says,
REFUSE, RETHINK, REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE AND RECOVER.
Learn from your experiences, bring those learnings into practice, work on applications and imbibe a sustainable lifestyle. We are responsible for our future generations and it is our moral accountability to give them a safe and healthy environment to live and flourish but all this requires a big shift from the lifestyle we have today. I request everyone to explore and try to get back to the basic lifestyle where we could be in sync with our environment and where we could work towards restoring our nature. Consume responsibly, do not waste instead devise ways to reuse by which we can replenish the resources used. Stop littering and polluting, start believing in hygiene. Think and believe everything around you are living and it’s not only you who is surviving but our survival is possible only if everything around us is connected to us. Don’t work towards breaking this connection, work towards building and fostering this connection.
“Think sustainable, live sustainable.”
