Tarn Taran (Punjab), July 11, 2025: With the onset of the rainy season, the Health Department has issued a public advisory to raise awareness about rising risks of waterborne diseases, including diarrhea, vomiting, dysentery, jaundice, and typhoid.
Providing details, Civil Surgeon Tarn Taran, Dr. Gurpreet Singh Rai, warned that contaminated water, improper food habits, and unhygienic surroundings are the major causes behind the seasonal spike in diseases.
He noted that flies and mosquitoes breed rapidly during this time, primarily due to stagnant water and garbage accumulation.“People must drink only filtered, boiled, and cooled water, and avoid consuming fast food, stale fruits, overly fried items, and street food,” said Dr. Rai.
He emphasized that homemade meals and fresh green vegetables are safer alternatives during this season.
To control the mosquito and fly population, the Civil Surgeon urged residents to:
- Install mesh doors and windows
- Avoid water stagnation in and around homes
- Clean fridge trays, flower pots, coolers, and roof areas weekly
- Use black oil in standing water to prevent mosquito larvae growth
Dr. Rai also appealed to the public to avoid unnecessary outings, especially during peak rainfall hours, to reduce exposure to seasonal infections.
The advisory serves as a preventive health initiative aimed at reducing disease outbreaks and promoting community hygiene during the vulnerable monsoon period.
