Bathinda (Punjab), October 2, 2026: A video purportedly showing a girl in an intoxicated state at Bathinda’s Dana Mandi has gone viral on social media, prompting questions over the ongoing campaign against drugs in Punjab.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal shared the video on his X account and criticised the Punjab government’s anti-drug campaign. He described the visuals as having “shaken the soul of Punjab” and alleged that the government’s efforts had failed to protect the state’s youth.
Following the circulation of the video, Bathinda Police intervened and shifted the girl to a government drug de-addiction centre for treatment, police said. In the video, the girl appears unable to maintain her balance and is seen falling before getting back up.
Inspector Yadvinder Singh, Chief Police Officer of Kotwali Police Station, said the girl was admitted to the government drug de-addiction centre on Thursday.
According to the police, she is a resident of the Jaito area of Faridkot district. Police said they were yet to ascertain how and why she reached Bathinda, and that the matter was under investigation.
