Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre to commemorate World Cancer Day 2025 with grand event

Mohali (Punjab), February 5, 2025: On the occasion of World Cancer Day 2025, Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre, A Unit Of Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai, Dept. Of Atomic Energy is set to organize a special event at its hospital premises to raise awareness about cancer and promote the importance of early detection and prevention.
The event will be graced by the presence of Shri Kumar Rahul, IAS, Administrative Secretary of Health and Family Welfare, Punjab, as the Chief Guest.The event will feature a series of engaging activities aimed at spreading cancer awareness among the attendees.
The hospital has planned several competitions, including rangoli-making, poster-making, slogan-writing, and best ward competitions.
Additionally, students from esteemed institutions such as AIIMS Mohali, RIMIT University, Chandigarh University, and Chitkara University will actively participate in Nukkad Natak (street plays) and other awareness activities within the hospital premises.
The hospital has also announced the introduction of a locker facility for all patients and their guardians, ensuring the safe storage of their valuable belongings during treatment. This initiative reflects the hospital’s commitment to enhancing the overall patient experience.
Additionally, the Department of Medical Social Services organizes a Cancer Patient Support Group Meeting during the event.
The support group aims to provide compassionate, culturally sensitive, and comprehensive medical social work services to individuals and families affected by cancer. the main aim of this department is to assess the financial needs of patients and offer assistance through various in-house and government schemes.
Following the vibrant competitions, a prize distribution ceremony will take place to honor the winners for their outstanding contributions and creativity in raising cancer awareness.
The event will culminate with a felicitation ceremony, where the Chief Guest facilitate as a token of appreciation by the director. Chief guest also shared their insightful words "Cancer is a disease that deeply affects families, especially in Punjab, and it requires dedicated care and attention. The way you all are handling this challenge is truly commendable. I still remember the initial days when I was the DC of Sangrur, and HBCH started building this setup from scratch. Today, I am truly grateful to Tata Memorial Centre—because of your efforts, Punjab now has access to better cancer treatment. Looking ahead, we will work towards removing the barriers between the Mukh Mantri Scheme and Ayushman Bharat Scheme, as these restrictions often hinder patients from receiving the care they need."
