Chandigarh, June 20, 2025: IPS officer Pushpendra Kumar has been appointed as the acting Director General of Police (DGP) of Chandigarh, as per an order issued by the Union Home Ministry. Kumar, a 2006-batch officer of the AGMUT cadre, will hold the additional charge of DGP until further orders. The Chandigarh DGP position has been vacant since the transfer of IPS officer Raj Kumar Singh to Delhi in April 2025. Singh, who was also the Inspector General (IG) of Chandigarh, had been serving as the acting DGP following the transfer of Surendra Yadav.
Kumar, who assumed the role of Chandigarh’s IG in June 2025 after being transferred from Delhi, replaced Raj Kumar Singh in that position. Prior to his posting in Chandigarh, Kumar served as the Joint Commissioner of Police, Eastern Range, in Delhi Police. He brings extensive administrative and operational experience, having previously held key positions, including Director in the Union Ministry of Defence in 2021.
The appointment comes amid recent developments in Chandigarh’s police administration, including Kumar’s involvement in organizing the "Drug Free India" Walkathon on June 12, 2025, to raise awareness about drug addiction. The Union Home Ministry’s order ensures continuity in Chandigarh’s police leadership, with Kumar now overseeing both the IG and DGP roles. Further updates on a permanent DGP appointment are awaited.
