Punjab Government hands PSPCL Command to Gurkirat Kirpal Singh

The Punjab Government has appointed senior IAS officer Gurkirat Kirpal Singh as the Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) as part of a fresh bureaucratic reshuffle.
The appointment comes at a time when Punjab is facing heightened electricity demand and power-supply challenges. The government is expected to look to the senior officer’s administrative experience to strengthen the functioning of the state power utility.
Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, a 2001-batch IAS officer of the Punjab cadre, has held several key assignments in the state government. He has previously served in senior administrative positions, including as Home Secretary, and has also handled responsibilities related to Mines and Geology and other important departments.
The appointment is being viewed as significant given the crucial role of PSPCL in managing Punjab's electricity generation, distribution and supply, particularly during periods of peak demand.
Ram Parkash Jindal, President of the Bathinda Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bathinda, has welcomed the Punjab Government’s decision to appoint Gurkirat Kirpal Singh as Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL).
Welcoming the appointment, Jindal said that Gurkirat Kirpal Singh is an experienced and capable administrator whose appointment would provide strong leadership to PSPCL. He expressed hope that under his leadership, the corporation would further improve the efficiency, reliability and quality of power supply across the state.
He said the industrial and business community looks forward to greater coordination between PSPCL and industry and hoped that issues relating to uninterrupted power supply, power infrastructure and the ease of doing business would receive due attention.

His administrative experience and understanding of Punjab’s requirements will help strengthen the power sector and address the concerns of the industrial and business community.
