Chandigarh, September 9, 2026: An agreement has been reached between the Punjab government and employee organisations over the ongoing strike by government employees. Following the agreement, the government has decided to withdraw the letter that had triggered strong opposition from employees and led to the strike.
According to information, employee organisations had raised objections to the government’s letter and had been demanding its withdrawal. The issue subsequently led employees to resort to a strike.
The matter has now been resolved following discussions between the government and representatives of the employees. The Punjab Chief Secretary has decided to withdraw the letter that had become the cause of the dispute.
The government’s decision is expected to ease the resentment among employees. The withdrawal of the letter is being viewed as a significant step towards addressing the concerns raised by employee organisations.
Following an agreement reached during the meeting, the employees have also decided to call off their strike. It has further been learnt that the show-cause notice issued by the government on August 27 will also be withdrawn.
An important meeting regarding the issues of government employees had been underway since this morning with the Chief Secretary. During the meeting, employee organisations put forward their demands and concerns before the government. After detailed deliberations, the two sides reportedly reached an agreement on several issues.
