Chandigarh, April 29, 2025 – In a major political development, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has firmly rejected any proposal to release water to Haryana, igniting fresh tensions between the two neighboring states.
Speaking to the media, CM Mann stated unequivocally, “Haryana has already used its full share of water. Punjab will not give even a single drop more.”
He further alleged that the central government is exerting pressure on Punjab through the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) to divert water to Haryana.

Mann’s remarks come amid Haryana’s repeated appeals for additional water to address an ongoing drinking water crisis. However, the Punjab Chief Minister argued that any further diversion would compromise the rights of Punjab’s farmers and the needs of its own citizens.
“This is not just about politics, it’s about justice,” Mann said. “Attempts are being made to snatch water from our fields and our people. Punjab will not be bullied into surrendering its lifeline.”
