Chandigarh, March 4, 2025: Commenting on the March 3 meeting with SKM leaders in Chandigarh that ended without any resolution, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said ongoing ‘rail roko’ and ‘sadak roko’ protests by farmers, stating that such continuous agitations are causing severe economic losses to the state.
"I told the farmers that Punjab is turning into a state of dharnas. My soft-heartedness should not be mistaken for inaction. I am the custodian of 3.5 crore people and must look after everyone's interests," Mann said.During a recent meeting with farmer leaders, Mann questioned the need for discussions when protests were set to continue.
"They told me the March 5 protest would go on. So, I asked—what was the point of making me sit for an two and half hour? I got up and left," he revealed.
Clarifying that the meeting was not held out of fear, Mann asserted, "I have met them before. I consider myself their friend. But if they insist on continuing protests despite talks, then there is no point in the meeting."
