Captain Amarinder bereaved, brother Raja Randhir Singh passes away

Chandigarh, May 27, 2026: Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday expressed grief over the demise of his brother Raja Randhir Singh.
Sharing the news through a social media post, Captain Amarinder Singh said he was deeply saddened by the loss and prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul.
“With deep sorrow, I regret to inform you all that my brother, Raja Randhir Singh Ji, has passed away. May Waheguru Ji grant eternal peace to the departed soul,” he wrote.
Condolences have started pouring in from political leaders, supporters and well-wishers following the announcement.
Raja Randhir Singh was born on October 18, 1946, in Patiala, then part of British India’s Punjab Province. He belonged to the prestigious Patiala royal family and was the son of Bhalindra Singh, the younger son of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh.
He hailed from a family deeply associated with Indian sports administration. His father, Bhalindra Singh, served as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for several decades and also held the position of President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). He played a significant role in bringing the 1982 Asian Games to New Delhi.
Randhir Singh’s uncle, Yadavindra Singh, was instrumental in the organisation of the first Asian Games held in Delhi in 1951.
Educated at Yadavindra Public School, Raja Randhir Singh later graduated in History from St. Stephen's College. During his student years, he was also actively involved in cricket and represented his school and college teams as a batsman and opening bowler.
He competed in five Olympic Games and became the first Indian shooter to win gold at the Asian Games when he clinched the men's Trap title at the 1978 Bangkok Asiad, according to the NRAI press release. He also won a bronze medal in the individual event and a silver medal in the team event at the 1982 Asian Games in New Delhi.
