Chandigarh MC’s Finance & Contract Committee Approves Key Welfare Projects, Addresses City Maintenance and Stray Cattle Issues

The Finance & Contract Committee (F&CC) of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh met today under the chairpersonship of Mayor Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla. The meeting was attended by MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Special Commissioner Sh. Pardeep Kumar, IAS, committee members Smt. Suman Devi, Sh. Saurabh Joshi, Sh. Gurpreet Singh, Sh. Jasmanpreet Singh, along with senior MCC officials.
The committee approved several proposals focused on improving urban infrastructure and enhancing public welfare. Notably, the repair and painting of the Night Shelter at Sector 26 received the green light to upgrade facilities for truck drivers. Furthermore, construction of four new rain shelters in the truck parking area was sanctioned to provide much-needed protection for visitors during the monsoon season.
For increased public safety, the committee endorsed the installation of concertina fencing along the boundary wall of the Idle Truck Parking area in Sector 26. This security enhancement comes with an estimated budget of Rs. 48.17 lakhs.
In efforts to strengthen the city’s sanitation and maintenance, the hiring of a chain dozer for one year to improve the upkeep of the city dumping ground was approved at an estimated cost of ₹33.72 lakhs.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held to address the persistent issue of stray cattle, particularly in the southern sectors of Chandigarh. Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla emphasized the importance of devising strong yet humane measures to effectively manage this civic challenge.
These initiatives reflect the Municipal Corporation’s ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life for Chandigarh’s residents through enhanced infrastructure, safety, and welfare services.
