Cross-Border Arms Smuggling Network Busted in Amritsar; Two Held with Eight Pistols

Amritsar, June 6, 2025 – In a major breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on organized crime, the Counter Intelligence (CI) wing of Amritsar has busted a cross-border arms smuggling module with links to Pakistan and arrested two key operatives. The arrests were made as part of Punjab Police’s ongoing efforts to make the state safe and secure, in line with the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, said that the arrested individuals have been identified as Sukhchain Singh of Daoke village and Jugraj Singh of Bhakna Kalan village, both in Amritsar. Police recovered eight sophisticated pistols from their possession— including three Glock 9mm pistols, four Px5 pistols, and one .30 bore pistol— along with a black Splendor motorcycle (PB02DC1197) used for transporting the consignment.
According to DGP Yadav, initial investigations have revealed that the duo was working under the instructions of a Pakistan-based smuggler named Noor, a resident of Manihala in Pakistan. Noor has reportedly been using drones to drop arms consignments across the international border into Indian territory.
The seized weapons were intended for delivery to gangsters in Punjab to fuel criminal activity, the DGP said. He added that a specific intelligence input had been received about a drone-dropped consignment near village Bhaini Rajputtan in the jurisdiction of Gharinda, Amritsar.
Acting on the input, CI teams swiftly intercepted the suspects on the Amritsar-Attari GT Road near Khasa while they were en route to deliver the consignment. The arms were recovered during the operation.
A case under FIR No. 34 dated 05.06.2025 has been registered at Police Station SSOC, Amritsar under Sections 25, 25(1)(A), and 25(1)(B) of the Arms Act and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigations are ongoing to trace the full network and its links, both backward and forward.
