Customs Commissionerate in Collaboration with Mayank Foundation holds Mock Parliament on Drug Abuse organized in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, February 1, 2025: In a landmark initiative, the Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate, Amritsar, in collaboration with the Mayank Foundation, organized a Mock Parliament on Drug Abuse for the first time in the history of Ferozepur. The event aimed to sensitize students about the grave issue of drug abuse and its detrimental impact on society.
Eminent Educationist Nitima sharma coordinated the ‘Event’ with the cooperation of NGO Mayank Foundation & Education Development, Ferozepur. Event was witnessed by DIG BSF, DSP City, Deputy DEO , Members of Mayank Foundation, Students & Teachers of Different Schools.
Students from Government Boys School, School of Eminence, and DC Model International participated in the event, which was designed to simulate a parliamentary debate on the role and failures of the government in curbing drug abuse. The students were divided into ruling and opposition parties, engaging in an intense discussion about the steps taken by authorities to address this pressing issue.
The Chief Guest, Commissioner (Preventive) Customs Abhinav Gupta IRS, delivered the keynote speech, urging the students to take their studies, sports, and extracurricular activities seriously as they play a pivotal role in shaping their future. He emphasized that the youth must be at the forefront of the battle against drug abuse, as they are the future of the nation.
The Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate, Amritsar, plays a crucial role in controlling the smuggling of drugs across the border in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF), Police, Intelligence Bureau (IB), and Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). The Commissionerate works tirelessly to prevent the illegal movement of narcotics and curb the spread of drug addiction.
Apart from its enforcement duties, the Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate is also committed to educating children and the general public about the severe consequences of drug usage. Through initiatives like this Mock Parliament, the Commissionerate aims to raise awareness and foster a generation of informed and responsible citizens who can contribute to the fight against drug abuse.
This event marked a significant step toward involving the youth in critical social issues and empowering them to become active participants in shaping a drug-free society.
At the conclusion of the event, the winners of the Mock Parliament and Slogan Writing competition were awarded trophies and certificates in recognition of their outstanding contributions.
