DTF announces statewide protest in Ludhiana on June 11
Ferozepur, June 4, 2025: In a significant move, teachers' unions in Punjab have declared a statewide protest rally in Ludhiana on June 11, over longstanding departmental and financial issues faced by thousands of school teachers. The announcement was made during a crucial meeting led by Democratic Teachers Front (DTF) District President Malkit Singh Haraj, along with senior union leaders Amit Kumar and Davinder Nath.
The unions have submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner, demanding immediate withdrawal of termination notices for 3704 Master Cadre and 6635 ETT teachers and seeking job security. They also called for prompt promotions across teaching and non-teaching staff, regularisation of computer and contractual teachers, restoration of old pension schemes, implementation of pending DA arrears, and revocation of the new pay scales imposed since July 2020.
The leaders stressed that demands include restoring rural and border area allowances, reinstating cut grades of PTI and Art Craft teachers, and confirming the services of terminated teachers like Narinder Bhandari and Dr. Ravinder Kamboj as per High Court orders. They further demanded associate teacher status for 125 volunteers and rationalisation policies for pre-primary and primary classes.
The leaders urged teachers across Punjab to join the protest in Ludhiana at 10:30 am on June 11 to press for these legitimate demands.
