ANTI-BEGGING DRIVE
District Child Protection Unit rescues 4 child beggars in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, July 15, 2025: Acting on the guidelines issued by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), Government of India, and under the directions of District Programme Officer Ferozepur, Richeeka Nanda, the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Ferozepur, conducted a special checking drive in coordination with the Police Department at Guru Har Sahai to curb the menace of child begging.
In various cities across India, there have been multiple instances of beggars, including children, being rescued from the streets and rehabilitated. These efforts are often part of larger campaigns to address the issue of begging, with a focus on providing shelter, counseling, and opportunities for rehabilitation and employment.
During this drive, four children involved in begging were rescued and presented before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Ferozepur. Also, a Daily Diary Report (DDR) was also filed in connection with the incident. The authorities coordinated with the parents of the rescued children, and both the children and their parents were provided with counselling. Parents were strictly warned to refrain from forcing children into begging and were advised to ensure their children are enrolled in school.
District Child Protection Officer Ajay Sharma informed that anyone concerned about the safety and welfare of children can reach out to the department. He further added that people can report any such cases through the Child Helpline Number 1098.
During this rescue operation, Jaswinder Kaur (Child Protection Officer), Gurmeet Singh (Supervisor, Childline), Gurpreet Singh (Supervisor, Childline), and ASI Jangir Singh from Guru Har Sahai Police Station were present.
