Ferozepur-Fazilka Road Tragedy: 11 dead, 15 injured; CM expresses grief, announces financial aid
Ferozepur, January 31, 2025: A devastating road accident occurred around 8 AM today on the Ferozepur-Fazilka road, involving a Bolero pickup van transporting laborers instead of goods. The van, reportedly carrying workers heading for catering jobs at weddings, lost control near Sufewala village and collided with a canter truck from behind.
Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann has also expressed grief over the tragedy and announced financial aid also.
Several injured victims were rushed to the hospital, where some succumbed to their injuries during treatment. Officials warn that the casualty count may rise further.
As per the latest update, the 15 injured persons namely Arjun S/o Raj Kumar, Gagan S/o Nanak, Gopal S/o Moti Lal, Naridner S/o Papu, Raj Kumar s/o Ballu Ram, Lal son of Kesar Rm, Sandeep S/o Dharam Chand Raj Kumar S/o Bheru, Som Desh S/o Jogi Ram, Lakhan Ram S/o Prem, Ajay S/O Bala Ram, Raman S/o Bhajan, Raman S/o Gurmeet Fouji S/o Gurmeet, and Ajay have been referred to Civil Hospital, Guruharsahai, Ferozepur, Astha Hospital, HKL Hospital and Faridkot. 11 persons reported to have died in this accident identified as Lakan S/o Raju, Kala Singh S/o Jagga Singh, Gobinda S/o Akku Vikky S/o Biba Ram, Sukhwinder S/o Mohinder Singh, Ravi S/o Ballu Ram Jaswant Singh S/o Gurmeet Singh, Bagga Singh S/o Baldev Singh Chand S/o Visakhi, and Malkit Singh S/o Butta Singh.
The incident occurred on the last day of All India Road Safety Month, which is being observed in Ferozepur, highlighting the urgent need for stricter road safety measures. Various NGO leaders have expressed shock over the tragedy and urged motorists to adhere to speed limits, maintain lane discipline, and follow traffic regulations to prevent such accidents and save precious lives.
Authorities, including the Road Safety Force (SSF), responded immediately to the scene to manage rescue operations and assist the injured. The investigation into the exact cause of the accident is underway.
SSP Soumya Mishra has expressed deep concern over the tragic accident. As per official reports, nine people have lost their lives, while around 15 injured individuals have been admitted to different hospitals. They are currently undergoing treatment and are reported to be out of danger. Further investigations will be conducted following the registration of the case.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister, Bhagwant Singh Maan also expressed his sentiments over the tragic incident and as per the information given by the local MLA Fauja Singh Sarari, Rs.2 lac has been announced as financial assistance to the families whose ward have died in the accident while Rs.50,000 to each injured persons.
