Ferozepur Rail Division achieves milestone; dispatches first basmati rice rake of FY 2026-27
Ferozepur, May 5, 2026: Ferozepur Division has achieved a significant milestone by successfully dispatching the first container rake of basmati rice in the current financial year 2026–27, further reinforcing the Railways—widely regarded as the lifeline of India.
Owing to the continuous efforts of the Business Development Unit (BDU) and effective coordination with various stakeholders, a rake loaded with 42 containers of basmati rice was dispatched on May 4, 2026, from the CONCOR terminal at Phillaur to Hyderabad and Chennai. The consignment was sourced from key basmati-producing regions including Tarn Taran, Amritsar, and Kotkapura.
This initiative has not only boosted freight movement in the division but has also contributed to a notable increase in railway revenue. A shift from road transport to railways is being observed, leading to reduced carbon emissions and promoting an eco-friendly mode of logistics.
The provision of cost-effective, time-bound, and door-to-door services by the railways has strengthened the confidence of traders. Continuous efforts by the Ferozepur Division are not only enhancing revenue but also building greater trust among the business community.
It is noteworthy that between December 2025 and March 2026, the division had already dispatched four container rakes of basmati rice from the Phillaur CONCOR terminal, further highlighting its growing role in freight operations.
