Chandigarh, May 14, 2024: Over 3.53 lakh voters have increased in Haryana in the last four months, noted Hemant Kumar, Advocate in Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Kumar shared that he had written to the Election Commission of India, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Haryana and the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of all the 22 districts of the state, to make public the atest number of registered voters (i.e. Male, Female, Transgender, Disabled, Overseas (NRI) and Service Voter) by uploading it on the official website of CEO, Haryana.
"According to a press note issued by Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Aggarwal on Tuesday, the total number of voters in Haryana is 2 crore 1 lakh 87 thousand 911, of which 1 crore 6 lakh 52 thousand 345 are male, 94 lakh 23 thousand 956 are female. Voters are involved. Apart from this, there are 467 transgender voters. Presently the above voter number based on the eligibility date of 1st January 2024 was published this year on 22nd January 2024 which is currently available on the website of the CEO, Haryana," said HC Advocate.
"It is worth noting that as per the instructions of the Election Commission of India, the latest number of total registered voters in all 22 districts of the state was updated by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Haryana this year based on eligibility date of January 1, 2024. And the final voter lists were published on 22 January 2024, based on which there were a total of 1 crore 98 lakh 34 thousand 602 voters in Haryana, whereas according to the latest data released by the Chief Electoral Officer, Haryana, there were 2 crore 1 lakh 87 thousand 911 voters. Thus, in the last four months, 3 lakh 53 thousand 309 voters have increased in the entire state. However, as far as the vacant Karnal (City) Assembly seat is concerned, from where the current Chief Minister of the state Nayab Singh Saini is contesting as a BJP candidate, the latest voter count has not been made public.," he added.
Hemant said that on January 22 this year, there were 2 lakh 56 thousand 557 voters in Karnal Assembly constituency. Certainly, this number must have increased in the last four months.
Hemant also said that under the Representation of the People Act, after the notification of elections in a state is issued, the process of filing nominations by the candidates continues for a week, on the last day of the same, nominations can be filed by the candidates till 3 pm. Similarly, new names can be added to the voter lists till the same date. This is done according to Section 23 (3) of the Public Representation Act, 1950. In this regard, he also cited a Supreme Court decision of July, 1977 – Narendra Madiwalapa Kheny vs. Manikrao Patil, in which this legal position was reiterated by the Court.
