Toronto (Canada), July 22, 2025: The Indian High Commission in Ottawa has issued a crucial advisory for Indians residing in Canada, particularly international students, warning them about fraudulent emails and calls claiming to be from Canadian authorities.
According to the advisory, several Indian citizens and persons of Indian origin in Canada have reported receiving fake communication related to visa status, immigration violations, job offers, or refunds of application fees.
In some cases, the victims were falsely accused of involvement in criminal or fraudulent activities to coerce them into paying money or sharing personal information. The advisory notes that international students have been the primary targets of such deceptive tactics.
The High Commission has urged the Indian community to exercise caution and vigilance, advising individuals to verify the authenticity of any such communication directly with the concerned authorities.
They are encouraged not to respond to suspicious emails or phone calls and to report any such incident to the local police and relevant Canadian agencies.
