Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Election deptt ropes in transgenders to motivate people to vote
Efforts will be made to educate voters with the help of transgenders: ADC

Ferozepur, April 3, 2024: To increase the vote poll percentage in the Lok Sabha elections 2024, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer, Rajesh Dhiman, the campaign by the transgenders (third gender) was a part of SVEEP - Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation, first time in Ferozepur the exclusive initiative of district administration, to encourage more transgenders to enrol as voters and exercise their franchise besides motivating the general public.
In all, there is a total of 45 transgenders in the Ferozepur parliamentary constituency including 21 in the Ferozepur district. According to the voter's list released by the Election Commission recently, the number of third-gender voters stands at 8,853.
SVEEP Nodal Officer Arun Sharma, ADC(D), while honouring the team of transgenders in a special way in the Zilla Parishad, said that during the social events held by them in their homes, events held at public places, these transgenders under the SVEEP campaign will try to make people aware of the importance of voting by using cultural speeches through the specially prepared Punjabi cultural dialects for them.
On this occasion, ADC appointed transgender leader Mahant Bobby Deva as the SVEEP Icon. He said that the goal of the district administration of Ferozepur is to increase the vote poll percentage and to encourage people of all classes to vote without any fear, greed, or caste.
Mahant Bobby Deva said that while he will ensure to poll the votes of all transgenders in the district, he will also encourage the people of the society to vote through Punjabi dialects by reaching every event. During our door-to-door campaign, we will tell all to poll their vote, without naming any particular party, in the coming Lok Sabha elections, to the candidate of their choice.
Transgender is still considered taboo, and not given respect or proper treatment. We will campaign in the entire society to make our place in humanity and this is an opportunity to make some headway in this direction.
Dr. Satinder Singh District SVEEP Coordinator thanked the entire team of transgenders and also gave detailed information about the work to be done in the future.
