Mohali DC Visits Nasha Mukti Kendra; Interacts with drug victims; Emphasizes Drug-Free Living and Skill Development for Rehabilitation
SAS Nagar, June 6, 2025:
Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairperson of the District De-addiction and Rehabilitation Society, Ms. Komal Mittal, visited the Nasha Mukti Kendra at Sector 66, SAS Nagar, run by a local society. The visit aimed to review the functioning of the centre and gather direct feedback from the drug victims undergoing treatment there.
She was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Ms. Sonam Chaudhary, Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangita Jain, SP (PBI) Ms. Deepika Singh, and Deputy Director (Employment) Mr. Harpreet Singh Manshahia.
Interacting with them, the Deputy Commissioner encouraged them to shun drugs and undergo proper treatment to reclaim a healthy and responsible life. She sensitised them to the importance of becoming contributing members of their families and society.
Ms. Mittal urged the drug victims to participate in skill development programs offered at the centre—such as mobile repair, cooking, and computer training—as a means of supporting their rehabilitation and improving future employability.
She directed Deputy Director (Employment) Mr. Harpreet Singh to counsel the youth getting treatment here, based on their interests and arrange suitable job-oriented courses accordingly. She highlighted that with the support of the Sun Foundation and the Employment Department, the District Administration is committed to rehabilitating the youth following their treatment.
The Deputy Commissioner also instructed health officials to ensure a nutritious and balanced diet for all drug victims undergoing treatment, noting that proper nutrition plays a key role in the recovery process.
She further added that the Nasha Mukti Kendra provides free de-addiction treatment not only to voluntary patients but also to individuals sent by the court under NDPS cases for reforms.
