Nanded (Maharashtra), July 21, 2025: In a significant and controversial move, the Sikh community in Nanded has issued a public declaration stating that no Sikh girl should marry into a non-Sikh family.
The congregation further announced that any girl who chooses to do so will be socially disassociated, and no relationship will be maintained with her within the community.
The resolution was passed during a recent gathering of Sikh sangat (congregation), where concerns were raised about the cultural and religious impact of interfaith marriages.
The group also appealed to Jathedar Kulwant Singh of Takht Sri Hazur Sahib to issue a formal hukamnama (edict) in support of this decision, reinforcing it as a directive for the broader Sikh community.
Community leaders stated that marriages outside the Sikh faith are causing harm to the community’s cultural and religious integrity, and strong steps are needed to preserve Sikh identity.
