New Delhi, March 31, 2026: In a major push towards digitalisation, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has decided to completely phase out cash transactions at toll plazas on national highways from April 1.
Under the new system, commuters will be required to make toll payments exclusively through digital modes such as FASTag and UPI, in a move aimed at reducing congestion and ensuring seamless travel.
Officials said the transition is part of a broader effort to modernise highway infrastructure and improve efficiency at toll collection points.
Digital payments are expected to significantly cut waiting time, minimise traffic bottlenecks, and enhance transparency in toll operations.
