Now, vote-from-home for 85 and above, people with disability in historic first
Ferozepur, May 2, 2024: The Election Commission has extended the facility for 'vote-from-home' for citizens above 85 years and persons with disabilities for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024 scheduled for June 1 in Punjab, said Rajesh Dhiman, DEO-cum-DC during a special interaction with the media persons.
He said all pre-poll arrangements have been made including making available the facilities at the booth level keeping in view the hot weather conditions during the poll day and every voter can cast his vote without any fear. Meanwhile, he also appealed to the voters that given the hot weather, the voters should prefer the morning time to exercise their right to vote.
DC said it is the first time that the Election Commission of India has given the facility to vote at home to the elderly and disabled people above 85 years of age. He said that if an elderly person or a disabled person wants to sit and vote at home, the BLOs will go to their house from May 25 to 27 and provide them with Form D. After obtaining consent, they will vote through ballot papers. He said that facilities such as wheelchairs, medical kits etc. will be provided for the elderly and disabled at the polling booths as well.
He said that various teams are fully active in keeping a sharp eye on any violation of the election code during the entire election process. He said that voters can use 12 optional documents including an Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Driving License, and MGNREGA Job Card to cast their vote. He also said that if anyone wants to file a complaint regarding the elections, they can use the C-vigil app or contact the toll-free number 1950 or 18001802510.
On this occasion, ADC(G) Dr Nidhi Kumud Bamba, Tehsildar Elections Chand Prakash, and DPRO Amrik Singh were also present.
