Punjab's 'Nautapa' ends without heatwave; IMD issues storm alerts for 16 districts
Babushahi Bureau
Chandigarh, June 3, 2025 — Punjab has concluded the traditional 'Nautapa' period—typically the year's hottest nine days—without experiencing a single heatwave day.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the state's average maximum temperature during this period remained 2.1°C below normal, offering residents a rare respite from the usual scorching heat.
The highest temperature recorded was 42.7°C in Bathinda on June 2, while most regions saw daytime highs between 36°C and 38°C.
This cooler trend is attributed to pre-monsoon showers and increased cloud cover across the state.
Weather Alerts Issued
Despite the milder temperatures, the IMD has issued weather alerts for several districts:
- Orange Alert: Fazilka, Muktsar Sahib, Bathinda, and Mansa are expected to experience thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds and dust storms.
