Punjab: Heatwave claims life of roadside fruit vendor

Bathinda (Punjab), June 14, 2026: A tragic incident linked to the ongoing heatwave has been reported from Punjab's Bathinda district, where a young roadside fruit and vegetable vendor died after reportedly falling ill due to extreme temperatures.
The deceased has been identified as Angrez, son of Nanke, a native of Uttar Pradesh. He had been living in Bathinda and earned his livelihood by selling fruits and vegetables from a handcart.
Despite doctors' efforts, he succumbed during treatment. The incident has left local residents saddened and once again highlighted the risks faced by outdoor workers during periods of intense heat.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the exact cause of death. However, the incident comes as several parts of Punjab continue to experience high temperatures and humid weather conditions.
