Punjab Fireman’s Death Sparks Outrage as Pargat Singh Demands Compensation
Chandigarh, May 15, 2025 – Congress MLA Pargat Singh has raised serious concerns over the Punjab government’s inaction following the tragic death of fireman Gagandeep Singh, who was fatally burnt while saving farmers’ crops from a fire. Earning a modest salary of ₹10,000 per month, Gagandeep Singh died in the line of duty, yet the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has remained silent, offering no compensation or support to his grieving family.
In a strongly worded statement on X, Pargat Singh criticized the state government for its apparent neglect, pointing out that no financial assistance or government job has been provided to Gagandeep Singh’s family. He contrasted this with the government’s swift action in providing ₹10 lakh in compensation and government jobs to families of victims who died due to spurious liquor, alleging that such measures were taken to protect the “liquor mafia.”
“Fireman Gagandeep Singh, earning only ₹10,000/month, was fatally burnt while saving farmers’ crops from fire. He died in the line of duty—and the Bhagwant Mann govt remains completely silent,” Pargat Singh posted. “No compensation. No job for his family. Meanwhile, families of those who died due to spurious liquor were immediately given ₹10 lakh and a govt job—just to shield the liquor mafia. CM @BhagwantMann, Gagandeep Singh’s family deserves rightful compensation and a government job. Act now.”
