Punjab declares public holiday on May 26

Chandigarh, May 24, 2026: The Punjab Government’s Personnel Department (PP-2 Branch) has issued an important notification declaring a public holiday across the state on May 26, 2026, in view of the upcoming local body elections.
According to the notification, the holiday has been announced to facilitate smooth polling during the general elections to Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats across Punjab.
The statewide holiday on Tuesday, May 26, will allow voters to exercise their franchise in the civic polls being conducted in various urban local bodies throughout the state.
