Chandigarh, April 22, 2025: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has strongly condemned the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government, accusing it of unleashing the “most serious form of tax terrorism” on the state’s business community.
The party alleged that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's administration is targeting traders under the guise of cracking down on middlemen.
According to the Akali Dal, tax officials across Punjab have been directed to conduct 1,000 raids every month, putting immense pressure on local businesses and creating a hostile environment for trade and commerce.
In a sharp response, the party has urged traders to oppose what it calls "government hooliganism," warning that such aggressive measures could severely damage the business climate in the state.
The Akali Dal also announced plans to launch a public movement against the government's campaign and called for the abolition of Inspector Raj.The party further demanded the revival of the 'Rahat' scheme, which was introduced during the Akali government’s tenure.
The scheme had aimed to reduce the interference of tax authorities by offering a simplified tax structure — ranging from Rs 5,000 for a turnover of Rs 25 lakh to Rs 20,000 for a turnover of Rs 1 crore.
