First 7 voters to get appreciation certificates, first 20 voters at Pink Booth to get Phulkari as a gift
Moga(Baghapurana), May 29, 2024: To increase voter turnout during the Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission of India, along with District Election Officers and Assistant Returning Officers, are making extensive efforts to bring voters to the polling booths. The unique efforts of Assistant Returning Officer Harkanwaljit Singh to encourage voters in the Baghapurana constituency are expected to result in a higher voter turnout compared to previous elections.
Harkanwaljit Singh announced that a green booth will be set up at Village Thatthi Bhai 072 (Baghapurana). Voters who cast their first vote there on June 1 will receive certificates of appreciation. This booth will be designed as a plastic-free zone, with badges made from cardboard material. On Election Day, Rangoli will be created, and banners promoting a 'Green Punjab' will be displayed. Early morning voters will be welcomed by the school band, and fruit saplings will be distributed at the booth. Villagers have been informed of these initiatives through banners.
He further said that a youth booth has also been set up at the village of Samadh Bhai in Bagha Purana. The first seven young voters will be encouraged by being given certificates of appreciation, footballs, and T-shirts. Additionally, each voter will be given cardboard badges. The booth will be specially decorated with rangoli and balloons.
He said that at the Senior Secondary School (Girls) in Bagha Purana, the first 20 new voters at the pink booth will be honoured with phulkari and given appreciation certificates. A tableau representing Punjab's culture will be presented. Apart from this, cold and sweet water (Chhabeels) stalls will be set up at each polling booth.
Harkanwaljit Singh stated that in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, 61.47% of votes were cast. This time, the goal is to achieve over 70% voter turnout as per the Election Commission's guidelines.
DEO-cum-DC Kulwant Singh praised the efforts of Assistant Returning Officer Harkanwaljit Singh's team, noting that all basic facilities will be provided at polling booths to increase voter turnout in Moga district.
