Tree Plantation Drive & Environment Awareness session organised at Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College

Ludhiana (Punjab), July 20, 2025: Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College Ludhiana, today organized Tree Plantation Drive and Environment Awareness Session within its campus to spread awareness on environmental protection and promote green practices among the faculty, students and staff.
State Information Commissioner, Punjab Harpreet Sandhu graced the environment awareness event as the Chief Guest. Principal GNDEC Ludhiana Dr. Sehijpal Singh and Iqbal Singh Director Nankana Sahib Education Trust Ludhiana honoured Harpreet Sandhu.
The event commenced with a ceremonial plantation of saplings by State Information Commissioner Punjab Harpreet Sandhu, senior faculty members, and student volunteers.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal GNDEC Ludhiana Dr. Sehijpal Singh reiterated the college’s vision of creating a sustainable and eco-conscious campus through continued environmental initiatives focused on tree planting and related environmental awareness campaigns with aim to address issues like deforestation, climate change, and environmental degradation through community engagement and educate the people about the ways through which they can conserve the environment.
State Information Commissioner Punjab Harpreet Sandhu, in his address, lauded the initiative of GNDEC Ludhiana for engaging faculty, students in environmental stewardship and emphasized the significance of tree plantation in combating climate change, preserving biodiversity, and ensuring a healthier ecosystem.
He also stated that “Planting a tree is not just an act of greenery but a commitment towards securing our collective future. Educational institutions must continue to lead by example in instilling ecological responsibility among youth.
Chief Guest Harpreet Sandhu State Information Commissioner Punjab presented the medals and certificates to the students who actively participated in the awareness session that followed, where discussions revolved around the importance of biodiversity conservation, pollution control, and the role of youth in mitigating environmental degradation.
The event concluded with a pledge by students and faculty of Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College Ludhiana to protect the environment and promote green practices in daily life.
The plantation drive added several indigenous saplings to the campus green cover, symbolizing the institution's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability.
