Women play a revolutionary role in the elimination of drugs from the state – Governor
Defense committees formed at the village level in the border districts showed good results
Ferozepur, July 25, 2024: Apart from the prosperity, progress and development of the state, women playing a revolutionary role in the elimination of drugs from society and the coming forward of women in every field is a good omen for the progress of the country. This was expressed by the Governor of Punjab, Banwari Lal Purohit while addressing the Village Defense Committees, residents of the area at the border village of the district.
Panchayats/individuals who contribute to the recovery of drones and drugs will be given special rewards

He said that the effort started three years ago to form defense committees at the village level in the border districts of the state is now showing good results. Our security agencies are succeeding to a large extent in controlling drug and arms dealers coming from across the border.
Governor said that anti-drone technology will be installed on the entire India-Pakistan border within a year, with which the smuggling of drugs and weapons through drones from Pakistan will be completely stopped. The Governor called upon the people to come forward together in controlling the drug dealers. He said that drug dealers should not be treated with pity even at night. He said that women should play a revolutionary role in the elimination of drugs from the state.
Governor Purohit said that Pakistan is giving shelter to drug and arms dealers, whose tactics will not be allowed to succeed. He also alerted the people about the conspiracies being hatched to harm the unity and integrity of Punjab while sitting on foreign soil and said that the patriotic people of Punjab would not be misled by such people anymore as the national interest has always been paramount for Punjabis.
He announced that cash prizes would be given to the committees/panchayats doing good work in six districts along the Indo-Pak border, in which the first prize would be Rs.3 lakh, the second prize would be Rs.2 lakh and the third prize would be Rs.1 lakh. He also announced that if a village becomes drug-free, the prize money will be released to the village.
He said that defense committees should be formed at the village level in every district for the elimination of drugs across the state. He praised the bravery of the villagers sitting on the border and said that your support has always proved effective in defeating the enemy and even today the police need your help to stop drug addiction. He said that women also have an equal contribution to the progress and development of the state.
Earlier, Chief Secretary of Punjab Government Anurag Verma welcomed the guests and said that the security committees formed at the village level helped the police, and BSF to control the drug dealers and the army is getting a lot of help. Apart from this, the feedback given by the security committees is also proving helpful in controlling anti-national elements.
On this occasion, DGP Gaurav Yadav said that anyone who helps the police in capturing the drone coming from across the border will be given a reward of Rs.1 lakh. He assured the people of the border area that they will continue to come to support you in this campaign launched against drugs.
On this occasion, MLA Ferozepur Urban Ranbir Singh Bhullar thanked Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit on his arrival at Ferozepur. He said that with the cooperation of security agencies, district police and district administration, drug traffickers have been controlled on a large scale in the past.
On this occasion, the governor, DGP, chief secretary and MLAs planted saplings under the campaign 'Every man should grow a tree' launched by the district administration of Ferozepur while conveying the message of environmental protection. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Ferozepur Rajesh Dhiman said that traditional trees are being planted on a large scale in the district under the initiative 'Every man should plant a tree'. He said that the target is to plant a total of 10 lakh trees during the monsoon season in the district, out of which 5 lakh trees have been planted.
On this occasion, an exhibition of Punjab Police and BSF was also held regarding the recovery of drones, weapons and drug consignments seized in the past.
On this occasion, MLA Guruharshai Fauja Singh Sarari, Additional Chief Secretary K Shiva Prasad, Commissioner Ferozepur Division Arun Sekhari, D.I.G. Ferozepur Range Ajay Maluja, Deputy Commissioner Fazilka Dr Senu Duggal, S.S.P. Ferozepur Soumya Mishra, S.S.P. Fazilka Dr Pragya Jain and officials from various departments including army and BSF were also present.
