Ludhiana, January 10, 2023: The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has tied up with Tirath Singh, Mohammadpur, Sangrur (Punjab) for the commercialization of PAU fixed dome type family size biogas plant having capacity from 1m3/day to 25m3/day technology, designed and developed under the scheme “All India Coordinated Research Project on Energy in Agriculture and Agro-based Industries (AICRP on EAAI)” and funded by ICAR.
Dr AS Dhatt, Director of Research, PAU and Mr Tirath Singh, Sangrur, signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), as per which the University offers non-exclusive rights for the above-mentioned technology.
Dr Ashok Kumar, Dean, College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, and Dr Gursahib Singh Manes, Additional Director of Research (Farm Mechanization and Bio-energy) congratulated Dr Rajan Aggarwal, Head, Department of Renewable Energy Engineering for commercialization of this technology, developed by Dr Sarbjit Singh Sooch, Principal Scientist, Renewable Energy Engineering.
Dr Aggarwal said that animal waste (cattle dung, poultry droppings, etc.) can be digested anaerobically for the production of biogas as a fuel for thermal applications as well as for power generation. It helps in maintaining cleanliness, especially in rural areas and saving cost, occurring convention source of LPG.
Giving details, Dr Sooch explained that the construction of this type of plant is easy and it is an all brick masonry structure. This design is suitable for all regions of the country.
The single digester of this plant may be designed for any rated capacity from 1 m3/day to 25 m3/day, he added.
The cost of this plant is 60 – 70% as compared to the cost of other conventional model biogas plant (floating drum biogas plants) and the maintenance requirements of this plant are far lesser than the floating drum biogas plants, he said.
The digested material so produced from such anaerobic digestion is good quality manure ready for use in fields.
Dr Usha Nara, Plant Breeder, TMIPRC, informed that PAU has signed a total of 313 MoAs. She also informed that this was the seventh MoA of PAU fixed dome type family size biogas plant.
