Demand for holding Mayor elections in February shows AAP and Congress's lust for power: BJP leader Devshali
Babushahi Bureau
Chandigarh, January 3, 2025:
Vice President of Bharatiya Janata Party Shakti Prakash Devshali termed the demand of AAP and Congress party for holding Mayor elections in February as ridiculous and said that this shows their lust for power.
Devshali said that AAP and Congress want elections against the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Act whereas according to the Act, elections should be held in the first month of the year.
Devshali said that last year's tenure of Mayor of AAP and Congress alliance will be remembered by the people of Chandigarh as the 'most inactive' tenure. AAP had promised free water in its manifesto for Municipal Corporation elections but despite one year of tenure, they have been unable to provide free water, forget about providing drinking water in adequate quantity to the residents of Chandigarh. Last year, people in different parts of the city kept yearning for every drop of water and the leaders of the alliance kept playing the flute of power like 'Nero'. Today, when the people of the city are demanding the accounts of the past year from the Mayor, the leaders of Aam Aadmi Party and Congress, to hide their resentment and divert the attention of the public, are demanding that the elections be held in February.
He also accused the alliance's joint Lok Sabha candidate Manish Tiwari of going back on his promise of giving Rs. 8500 per month to the women of every family made in his manifesto, and asked him to deposit this amount in the accounts of the women immediately.
Devshali urged the Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh Administration to set aside the demands of Aam Aadmi Party and Congress against the Municipal Corporation Act and conduct the elections of Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor in the month of January itself.
