26/11 Mastermind Tahawwur Rana Brought to India — Will He Face the Death Penalty?
New Delhi, April 10, 2025:
A National Investigation Agency (NIA) team has brought Tahawwur Rana — the mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks — to India. He will now have to answer for every wound inflicted on Mumbai. A joint team of the NIA and Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) brought him from the United States after a six-year-long legal battle in American courts led to his extradition. According to sources, Rana will first be taken to the NIA headquarters for initial questioning. After that, he will be produced before the Patiala House Court, where the agency will seek his remand. Sources also suggest he may be lodged in Tihar Jail.
Bringing the mastermind of the Mumbai attacks to India is nothing short of a major success for the country. Tahawwur Rana had conspired with David Headley and others to execute the attacks. He even visited India and stayed at the Taj Hotel — the same hotel targeted by terrorists. The attacks shook Mumbai and the entire country, killing 166 people, including citizens from other countries.
Meanwhile, Natwarlal Rotawan, a survivor of the 26/11 attacks, reacted to Rana’s extradition by saying, “India will truly be victorious when Tahawwur Rana is given the death sentence. I was the one who identified terrorist Ajmal Kasab. Prime Minister Modi is a lion — we went inside Pakistan and eliminated the terrorists. We are Indians, we do not fear...”
