Chandigarh, April 13, 2025: Punjab Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Pratap Singh Bajwa has defended his recent claim regarding the presence of hand grenades in the state, stating that his intention was to alert the government, not to create panic.
“I hold a constitutional position as Leader of the Opposition. My primary duty is to warn the government about serious threats,” Bajwa said during a media interaction in Chandigarh.
Referring to a recent TV interview, Bajwa clarified,“I mentioned that my sources informed me that 50 bombs had entered Punjab, 18 of which have already been used. One grenade attack occurred at Manohar Lal Kalia's residence. These details came from my trusted sources.”
Bajwa added that he has long-standing connections from his time in the Rajya Sabha and Punjab Assembly.
“I have sources in central agencies, Punjab Police, and state intelligence. They told me the situation is becoming increasingly sensitive,” he said.
He also confirmed that two senior Punjab Police officers had visited his residence for questioning and asked him to disclose the source of his information.
“I told them clearly—I cannot reveal my sources,” Bajwa stated.
The statement comes amid an active investigation by Punjab Police into Bajwa's claims, which have raised serious concerns about public safety and information credibility.
