Chandigarh, April 13, 2025: Newly re-elected Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal has made a serious allegation, claiming that a conspiracy was orchestrated to dismantle the Akali Dal following its exit from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Addressing a public rally, Badal alleged that efforts were made at the highest levels to weaken the party and erase its presence from Punjab’s political landscape.
“After we parted ways with the NDA, a deliberate conspiracy was launched to eliminate the Akali Dal,” he said.He accused the Central Government of taking control of gurdwara committees, which traditionally have strong links to the SAD.
“The BJP government has tried to take over Sikh religious institutions,” Badal claimed.
Badal also accused individuals once nurtured by the party—such as Manjinder Singh Sirsa—of betraying it. “Those whom Akali Dal brought up turned their backs on us when the time came,” he said.
He further criticized Giani Harpreet Singh and other jathedars, alleging they were being manipulated by the Centre.
“Jathedars were influenced with government resources like gunmen and official vehicles, and used to incite the Sikh community against the Akali Dal,” he added.
According to Badal, instead of uniting the Sikh community, these religious leaders focused on weakening the Akali Dal’s organization.
“Their priority should have been to strengthen the Panth, not destroy the Akali Dal,” he said.
These statements mark a sharp escalation in SAD's rhetoric against the BJP-led central government and underline the ongoing tensions following the Akali Dal’s break from the NDA over the now-repealed farm laws.
