Partap Bajwa to CM Mann on Grenade Row: "File a case if you wish, I won't be silenced"

Chandigarh, April 13, 2025: Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa launched a scathing attack on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, accusing him of misusing state power to silence political dissent and evade accountability on critical security issues.
Speaking to the media, Bajwa said, “If you want to register a case against me, you’re fully welcome.” The statement came in response to a visit by senior police officials to his residence earlier in the day, allegedly at the behest of the government. The officers questioned Bajwa about a recent media interview in which he disclosed that 50 hand grenades had reportedly been smuggled into Punjab from across the border.
“I confirmed that I had indeed shared this information with a news channel,” Bajwa stated, expressing deep concern over national security. He recalled his personal experience with terrorism, having lost his father in a 1987 attack and surviving an attempt on his own life in 1990. “I come from a family that has paid the price for peace. I will not remain silent when Punjab’s security is at risk.”
Bajwa, holding a constitutional post as Leader of the Opposition, emphasized his responsibility to bring such threats to public attention. However, instead of addressing the serious nature of his revelations, Bajwa alleged that CM Mann responded with threats of “strict action” — a move he described as a clear abuse of power.
“I will not disclose my sources, and I will not be intimidated,” Bajwa declared. “My loyalty lies with the people of Punjab and the Constitution — not with the whims of a vindictive government.”
He urged the Chief Minister to focus on governance and take cross-border threats seriously instead of targeting those raising genuine concerns.
“The safety and security of Punjab must come before politics,” Bajwa concluded.
