DC Showkat Ahmad Parray Emerges as a People’s Administrator in Bathinda

Bathinda, April 13, 2025 – In a short span of time, Showkat Ahmad Parray, Deputy Commissioner of Bathinda, has become a household name across the district—admired not only for his administrative acumen but also for his humility, accessibility, and people-centric approach. Widely regarded as one of the most popular officers in the region, Parray's leadership has garnered praise across party lines and sections of society.
An Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 2013 batch, Showkat Ahmad Parray exemplifies the values of dedicated public service, visionary governance, and a missionary zeal to serve the public. His impactful tenure in both Patiala and Bathinda as District Magistrate stands testament to his commitment to good governance and social equity.
Driving Change with Compassionate Leadership
Known for handling sensitive matters with a balanced and firm approach, Parray earned widespread acclaim for his proactive and peaceful resolution of the farmers’ agitation in Bathinda. His approach not only helped diffuse tensions but was also commended by the state’s highest judiciary—a rare acknowledgment for a serving civil servant.
Parray’s tenure is marked by his ability to revive long-pending infrastructure projects. A notable achievement is the long-awaited completion of the Bathinda–Mansa bypass, which had been languishing unresolved for nearly eight years. Through strategic coordination with political leadership and stakeholders, he ensured the project’s successful execution.
Empowering Youth through Sports
With a vision to support local talent, Parray initiated the “Utsaah” scheme, providing monthly financial assistance of ₹2,000 to promising athletes performing at the national and international levels. Currently, 14 sportspersons are benefiting from the scheme—demonstrating his commitment to grassroots development and youth empowerment.
