Ottawa/ Chandigarh, April 29, 2025:
In a historic outcome of the Canadian federal elections held on April 28, a record 22 Punjabi-origin candidates have been elected as Members of Parliament, marking the highest-ever representation of Punjabis in the House of Commons.
These elected MPs belong primarily to the ruling Liberal Party and the opposition Conservative Party, reflecting strong community support across party lines.
Among the 22 winners, 6 are women, 6 are turbaned (dastardhari) Sikh men, and the remaining 10 are other Punjabi-origin candidates, highlighting the diversity and increasing influence of the Punjabi diaspora in Canadian politics.

This significant milestone underscores the growing political engagement of the South Asian community, particularly Punjabis, and their expanding role in shaping the future of Canada's multicultural democracy.
