Punjab declares 3-day dry spell ahead of Ludhiana West By-Election

Ludhiana (Punjab), May 30, 2025– Bad news for liquor consumers in Punjab as the state’s Excise Department has announced a three-day dry day in view of the upcoming Ludhiana West Assembly by-election.
The decision has been taken in compliance with guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India to ensure free and fair voting.
Dry Days: June 17 to June 19
According to Excise Commissioner Jatinder Zorwal, the sale, distribution, and consumption of alcohol will be strictly prohibited from 6 PM on June 17 to 6 PM on June 19 within the polling area and a surrounding 3-kilometer radius. Additionally, June 23, the day of vote counting, has also been declared a dry day.
Strict Action for Violations
Commissioner Zorwal warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found violating these orders. All concerned departments and officials have been directed to enforce the orders firmly.

- Counting Day: Monday, June 23, 2025
